Creating powered multimedia speakers to follow the Audioengine 5 was a challenge, but we feel we‘ve managed to duplicate the signature sound of the Audioengine 5‘s in a much smaller package perfectly suited for your desktop or a smaller space in your home or office. The Audioengine 2 is a great introduction to high-quality audio and the perfect upgrade for your computer or iPod.

Brotherly Love
The Audioengine 2 (A2) is about one-third the size of our flagship Audioengine 5 system and is an excellent computer audio upgrade or small room speaker. We used the same custom tweeters as the Audioengine 5, matched them with newly designed compact Kevlar woofers and then added high-performance amplifiers with gold-plated speaker connectors. All this great engineering is wrapped in wood cabinets with a hand-polished finish to create a premium quality desktop multimedia speaker system that puts all those sad plastic computer speakers to shame!

Smaller Speakers, Still Big Bass
To say that the bass on the Audioengine 2 is substantial for their size may be an understatement, but you should be the judge. The bass was coaxed from the A2 with some very clever acoustic and electrical design and without using any DSP or fake bass boost circuits. Wood remains a preferred speaker enclosure material for its stiffness at higher volume levels and the sealed cabinet focuses just the right amount of low end from the tuned front port slots.

Versatile and Efficient
The A2 was designed for your desktop but is also perfect for smaller rooms. Well-suited for all types of music, movies, and videogames, the A2 sounds great with or without a subwoofer. Using a similar design as the Audioengine 5, the A2 power amplifiers are built inside the left speaker, providing a very efficient system. An auto-sleep standby feature is also included to conserve power when you're not playing music.

Easy Connections
We’ve included 1/8 mini jack and RCA inputs so connecting A2 is easy. No software installs, plug-ins, or sound card upgrades. Just connect the audio output (or headphone jack) from your computer, iPod, Airport Express, Sonos system, PSP - or any other audio device - into the A2 rear panel input. All cables that you may need are included.

Custom Built
Audioengine designs and manufactures our own tweeters, woofers, and many other critical components. In other words, these are not "box built" speakers with off-the-shelf parts but entirely custom-designed to our specifications. What we do not fabricate directly in our factory we have custom-made to our designs (parts such as toroidal transformers, magnets, and wiring harnesses, for example). The cabinets, drivers, bass port designs, amplifiers, and crossovers are all painstakingly tuned together for each Audioengine model. This, in turn, makes for a much more efficient system that requires much less power than AV stereo receivers and passive speakers.

Drivers
Audioengine uses audiophile quality, ferro fluid cooled, silk dome tweeters with Neodymium magnets. Silk tweeters hold up well under high power and the edge-driven design gives very smooth response. The woofers are Kevlar woven glass aramid composite with rubber surrounds. Kevlar is obviously very strong, which means that the woofer retains its shape when being driven at high levels. The speaker materials and construction are robust enough to stand up to some serious thrashing, so speaker grills aren’t needed. In other words, we did our homework on the speaker drivers and they will sound and look great after many years of use.

Cabinets
To minimize unwanted resonances and distortion, Audioengine cabinets have thick high-resin MDF walls with extensive internal bracing. Heavy internal sound-damping material is used to reduce unwanted sound reflections inside the cabinet. All cabinet edges are rounded which look great and reduce high-frequency diffraction effects on the front baffles. Each cabinet contains tuned, rear-firing ports. Both speakers are tuned and tested together and sold in pairs.

Power Amplifier
The amplifiers in Audioengine speakers are located in the left speaker and are a very conservatively rated all-analog design. All components are tuned together for each model, which provides a much more efficient system requiring less power than passive speakers and separate amplifiers. Circuit boards for the power and preamp sections are vertically mounted for maximum mechanical shock protection (a good thing).

Shielding
Both drivers are directly video shielded and allow the user to place the speakers within a few inches of a video monitor. This shielding also offers protection for hard-drive digital music players.

Why passive speakers?

The P4 passive speakers are full-sounding bookshelf speakers in a satellite-sized package. The goal with P4 was to design a small but powerful bookshelf speaker for people that already have surround receivers or amplifiers and are looking for the same Audioengine sound and quality in a passive loudspeaker.

Already have an amplifier?

If you already have a power amp or don't want to give up that big surround receiver then the P4 is for you. The P4 has excellent bass response for its size, which is evident when used either as stereo speakers or as satellite surround speakers in your home theater setup. P4 sounds great sitting on stands, on a bookshelf, or mounted on a wall using the integrated threaded inserts which are compatible with most wall or ceiling mount bracket systems.

The Audioengine W1 is designed to connect your audio components wirelessly. Think of AW1 as a simple replacement for any RCA or 3.5" mini-jack cable to or from your iPod, Audioengine powered speakers, computer, TV, surround-sound receiver, game console, network music player - or any other product where you want to eliminate audio cables.

High frequency driver
The Knight series was designed and manufactured using drive units and components built in-house, from the ground up - only possible because of our world-class research and development. The Knight series achieves superb high-frequency performance using a 'soft-dome' tweeter which produces a more controlled performance than metal equivalents and an innovative aluminium-core voice coil which matches and even exceed the bandwidth possible from metal domes without having to worry about inherent problems. Accuracy of high frequencies is core to the ability of any loudspeaker to render three dimensional soundstages whilst providing high class acoustic performance.

Cabinet design & Bass driver
In most loudspeaker designs, room modes are easily excited by forward or rear-firing reflex ports, which can cause resonance and a resulting 'boom' at particular bass frequencies. Whilst giving an impression of an impressive bass response, this boom frequency masks all others making bass indistinct and slow. Using TPT (Twin-Pipe Technology), a new generation of transmission-line, vented through the speaker base - a system that couples the bass response within the cabinet enclosure using a twin-pipe quarter wave design to provide a smooth and even bass response which augments that from the main bass driver with clarity. Using a rigid yet light mixed-fibre cone material in the bass driver makes it fast enough to track the most complex score and its unique 'TPT' (Twin-Pipe Technology) transforms the performance of all its floor-standing speaker models, using the internal volume of the cabinet to extend the bass response without using unruly reflex ports. Adorned with the highest quality genuine wood veneer, the Knight series offers more than just a taste of high-end luxury.

Finish
Made from fine real-wood veneer that is sourced from sustainable timber, with the most beautiful deep-figured slices and cut from real trees. Each speaker pair being hand-finished using mirrored, book-matched veneers before being sealed and waxed in a process which takes over 5 days.

Multi-channel music and home theater present a challence - where do you put 5 or more speakers -- a challenge in the "real world"? Sometimes free standing speakers or even wall mounted speakers are not an option. A very nice solution to this problem is the use of 5 CC3's. Because of it's excellent horitontal dispersion, it can be placed on or in a bookcase, or cabinet, or ceiling mounted.

The CC3 operates down to 80Hz. It is all Magneplanar and does not use cones or woofers. You get the same Magneplanar sound from the critical center channel as the other channels in your system. No place for a center channel speaker? A derived center channel speaker will amaze you. The center channel image is produced by a pair of on-wall speakers (MC 1s) adjusted at 45 degrees from the way. How does that produce a center image? Think about it-- how does your stereo produce a center image with 2 speakers? A pair of MC 1s derives a center channel in the same manner. Additionally, due to the dispersion pattern of the MC 1s, when set at 45 degrees, the image will stay in the middle even if you are sitting off to the side.

Michell Gyro SE Turntable w/ RB300 Arm

Based entirely on the GyroDec, but without the costly acrylic plinth and dustcover, the Gyro SE (Spider Edition) brings the same qualities in a more affordable and compact package. A Michell Gyro SE can always be converted into a GyroDec by purchasing a plinth and dustcover.

The task of a turntable seems to be simple. At audio frequencies, the arm should be kept locked above the groove, without any extraneous motion relative to the cartridge. And the groove should be dragged at a constant angular speed underneath the stylus. This means that over the whole frequency band of 10Hz up to 20kHz and beyond, the whole loop made by record, platter, bearing, (sub)chassis, arm board, tone arm, and cartridge body should behave in an utterly rigid and non-resonant fashion. Any flexure of the same dimensions as the microscopic undulations in the groove detracts from sonic fidelity.

At lower-than-audio frequencies, the arm should be made able to freely follow the groove's warps and excentricities, so as not to damage LP or cartridge, and this without inducing any spurious signals into the cartridge's generator.

Only when these demands are fulfilled can the stylus trace the actual information embedded in the record's groove walls.

A simple task, you said?

LP records are warped. LP records vibrate along with the music as the stylus traces the groove. And LP records tend to move and bend under the pressure of the arm and cartridge when they are insufficiently supported.

Michell turntables clamp the record to a hard platter. This flattens out warps, and it also couples the LP tightly to the platter so that internal resonances can be drained away from the stylus, as if the LP effectively is of a much higher thickness and rigidity. The Gyro SE uses a simple clamp to press down the LP record; under action of the clamp the record's playable area is then very tightly pressed down onto the flat platter, right to its edges.

Michell makes the platter from a proprietary self-damping compound of carbon/vinyl -loaded acrylic. This material closely approaches the mechanical and acoustical properties of the vinyl record itself, enhancing the coupling between both. Indeed, at boundaries of materials with like acoustic impedances, transmission of vibrational energy occurs. Whereas at boundaries of dissimilar materials, be they LP versus felt, metal, glass, or just air, only part of the energy is transmitted, the remainder being reflected back into the album, towards the stylus.

The power supply
Like all the players, CD10 depends on the user’s mains source for its power supply. Unfortunately this source is increasingly subject to interference, especially since the arrival of switching mode power supplies used by computers as well as by numerous other consumer electronics goods. All these power supplies are supposed to prevent any input or output disturbance, emit towards the mains high frequency signals likely to disturb the CD’s musical reproduction. The CD10’s transformer is an R-Core type. These very specific models have very interesting characteristics from the point of view of mains interference filtering. Contrary to toroidal transformers, which have a very broad bandwidth, R-Core transformers, due to the way there are made, have a very narrow bandwidth. This makes them the ideal choice when the current requirement is moderate. CD10 is equipped with a linear power supply made up of several distinct sections in order to avoid the problems of cross talk from the power supply, in particular between the digital and analog sections. The digital power supply provides the necessary current to the drive mechanism, the feedback circuits and to all of the user interface section.

The drive mechanism
The MICROMEGA team invested so much energy and time into developing the most appropriate solution in terms of musical reproduction. The MICROMEGA team’s wish was to be innovative in this field and to use a DVD mechanism; this was for very good reasons. Due to the success of DVD, DVD mechanisms produced today are of top, reliable quality, simply because they are mass produced and therefore subject to extremely tough quality control procedures inherent to mass production.
Digital to analog conversion: AD1853 CD10 calls upon one of the best dedicated digital-analog converters currently available. We chose the Analog Devices AD1853 because of its unbeatable value for money. This converter with its dynamics of 110dB, its signal to noise ratio of 112dB and its THD + Noise figure of < -100dB is the ideal converter for treating signals as accurately as possible. The power supply with constant current source and shunt regulators ensures total immunity from external disturbances. The local decoupling ensured by very low inductance, very low series resistance capacitors, guarantees better signal integrity for the analog stages.

The analog stages
As specialists know well, measurements and listening do not always go hand in hand; there is always an empirical part which remains and experience in the audio field is thus essential. The type of alignment of the analog output filters was not left to chance and the choice of a thirdorder Bessel filter turned out to produce the best results. The frequency cut-off was placed at 75 kHz, well beyond the audio band guaranteeing a perfectly linear phase from 20 Hz to 20 kHz and a constant group delay on the full audio band. For the last pole of this alignment, we deliberately selected a passive element in series with the signal in order to reject all high frequency residues which could have slipped through even the tightest of nets. This results in an output signal that is free from any DC component due to the use of a specific circuit, which allows a low impedance connection without resorting to a coupling capacitor.

Conclusion: A challenge achieved
To produce a CD player at a reasonable price is not easy when your aim is to achieve the highest level of musical reproduction, which is as faithful and transparent as possible. CD10 reaches that point admirably and the thousands of owners of this model are only full of praise. For once you can rightly appreciate the positive effects of a rumor. The concept
IA100 was designed to be ergonomically intuitive and the interface easy to use, thus enabling smooth transition when switching from one model to another in the Micromega range. Made in France entirely out of galvanized steel, the role of the amplifier’s frame is to provide a stable and rigid base for the various electronic boards. It also protects all of the electronic circuits against external electromagnetic disturbances and high frequency exposure, which are very common in today’s environment. The aluminum front panel adds a special touch to all of the models of this range, providing an impression of elegant soberness, where minimalism and user-friendliness combine harmoniously. A digital rotary encoder, driven by the unit’s micro-controller, allows you to set the volume level or balance as well as other parameters such as headphone output level which can be set independently from the master volume level. All connectors are Gold plated and the reference grade WBT loudspeaker connectors take banana plugs as well as stripped cables of up to 10 mm² cross-section. The power supply

This is all the more true in our case as all MICROMEGA’s integrated amplifiers are equipped with a Phono input, making this issue more delicate still. The Phono input requires extremely optimized power supply filtering because in the Phono section, the signal has to be equalized according to the RIAA standard curve.

Taking into account these requirements, we opted for two types of transformer: one R-Core for all preamplification stages and one toroidal, exclusively for the power section. The toroidal transformers are quiet and offer a very favorable power/dimensions ratio. In addition, their two-wire construction allows a perfect alignment between windings, which is a necessary condition for good common mode rejection. This transformer was specially designed for the IA100, which required a very high dynamic capability in order to guarantee vitality and transparency of the musical message. It should be remembered that in a high fidelity amplifier it’s not continuous power which is most significant but the instantaneous power that the power supply is capable of delivering and consequently the amplifier’s power stage. Equally, the speed with which the power supply can react is significant in terms of final quality obtained and therefore must be considered when a product is in the design stages. MICROMEGA’s development team, using powerful simulation CAD software, designed a custom transformer for the IA100 and its characteristics perfectly match this amplifier providing more than 25 A and more than 200 A peak intensity.

The input board
IA100 shares the same input card as the two other integrated amplifiers in this range. To fulfill current requirements, IA100 offers the following inputs: PHONO, AN1, AN2, AN3, AN4 and iPod/iDok. In addition there are other features, such as a monitoring loop, a PROCESSOR input, a SUB input and output to allow 2.1 functionality as well as separate control over the Sub out in both modes. Particular care went into designing the phono input and its stage which accepts moving magnet cartridges. Although CD invaded the planet, many audiophiles remain extremely attached to their vinyl record collection and it appeared essential to satisfy them too. The circuit used has its own regulated power supply to eliminate interference with the other active circuits as much as possible, thus offering the most faithful RIAA correction possible. The line level signals are switched using high quality relays and buffered with Jfet opams to avoid loading the source. The monitoring loop is independent and the tape output is buffered to avoid the well-known phenomenon of distortion. The headphone output, situated on the front panel, uses a small stereo power amplifier capable of delivering enough current to avoid low impedance headphone problems and providing the 32 to 600 O headphones with superb dynamics. Very often the headphone output is only there because it has to be, but works with a poor quality amplifier. MICROMEGA, conscious of the fact that many music lovers like listening with headphones, decided to fully satisfy them and avoid the need to acquire an often extremely expensive separate headphone amplifier.

The power amplification
After many hours of listening to various type of music, MICROMEGA selected 4 LM3886T modules in parallel to serve as the IA100’s power modules for the power section. Although this choice could be questionable at first glance, the listening results in this particular configuration are astonishing. As long as the speakers selected do not show very low impedance and very low sensitivity, IA100 is capable of reproducing all types of music effortlessly, while truly respecting the spirit of the musical content. The specifically designed heat sink, using pressed fin technology, keeps the modules under a very reasonable temperature range in all circumstances. All audiophiles know all too well that high temperature is a serious enemy, especially for electrolytic capacitors that dry out after a while and fail.

The output stages are entrusted to very high quality operational amplifiers, delivered with a specific supply branch, ensuring perfect insulation between the various sections of the board, thus avoiding any crosstalk or intermodulation. Each XENO loudspeaker features a critically shaped paper pulp cone mid/bass driver providing transparent and dynamic mid/bass registers. Utilizing technology from our subwoofer drivers we have built into the design an extended cone travel and ultra linear motor assembly to control the bass accurately down to the rated frequency. The tweeter (treble driver) is a soft textile dome unit with Neodymium magnet, providing complimentary transparent and crisp higher octaves. These drivers are specifically matched to compliment each other and come fully shielded for Audio Visual use. The system is audibly bound together with the inclusion of a high quality crossover using audiophile matched capacitors and specially wound induction coils to precise specifications. Additionally each cabinet is hand crafted from high grade MDF which is finished in a luxury high Gloss quality two part paint coating.

Each cabinet is meticulously crafted using a combination of precision CNC machinery and skilled carpenters providing the finishing touches. Constructed from high quality MDF panels which are sprayed with no less than 5 coats of paint and completed to the finest furniture finish. The result is a stunning piece of architecture that finds itself able to blend in with all living environments.

Each cabinet has been placed in an unwoven soft cloth bag to protect the high gloss finish. In each carton there are vinyl stickers to place over the threaded holes in the base should you wish to cover these holes and also 4 sticky rubber feet for each cabinet for shelf mounting. The stickers can be used to cover up the holes that are visible after the wall bracket has been attached. Not all stickers will be required and they are provided as a means of aesthetic improvement only as the threaded holes are sealed from inside the cabinet already.

Myryad MXC7000 CD Player

At the heart of the MXC7000 is a 24-bit precision multi-bit D-S (delta-sigma), 192kHz dual differential Digital-to-Analogue Converter (DAC). This DAC has an exceptionally wide dynamic range and very low distortion.
More significantly, its integral switched-capacitor output filter greatly reduces its sensitivity to clock jitter.
In order to achieve the ultimate in low-jitter performance, the MXC7000 uses a specially selected high quality crystal-controlled master clock run from its own isolated low-noise power supply.

The four output signals from the DAC feed two differential low-pass filters using an individual low-noise ultra-high-speed Difet operational amplifier for each channel together with precision 0.1% metal film resistors and 1% polypropylene film capacitors.
These precision op-amps filter the high-frequency energy from the DAC without corrupting the delicate audio signal.
The signal then passes to the discrete output stage featuring Myryad's Double Complementary Cross-Coupled configuration (DC3) operating in Class A from high voltage power supplies.

All the audio stages in the MXC7000 are DC-coupled to ensure the most accurate signal path. Any residual DC on the output is trimmed out by manual adjustment of each channel during production. The alternative approach, using a DC servo, introduces additional active and passive components into the audio signal chain, and so always produces some degradation of the audio signal, however small. Myryad's trimmed DC offset technique eliminates this degradation and results in a dramatic improvement in sound quality.

The power supplies in the MXC7000 have received particular attention. Two separate toroidal mains transformers are used, one dedicated solely to the audio circuitry to ensure total isolation of digital or CD servo noise from the audio signal.
In addition, the audio supplies have 20,000 mF of reservoir capacitance to ensure the cleanest possible source for the analogue supply regulators. Even the digital/transport supplies have 10,000 mF of reservoir capacitance.
All the power supplies use high-speed rectifier diodes to minimise switching noise. The MXC7000 has a total of 14 separate regulated power supplies, each designed specifically for its individual application. The isolation of the most critical power supplies exceeds 130 dB.
